Mk Creates: My Design Journey
I am a graphic designer with a bachelor’s degree in web design. As you may have read on my site, I fell into the world of web design by accident.
Where it all began...
After high school, I attended my local community college to pursue an associate’s degree in information technology. Like every other high school student, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I did, however, know that I wanted it to include computers.

My first two semesters were spent learning the inside & out of Cisco router systems and computers. I quickly realized that this was not the path that I wanted to pursue. In an attempt to shake things up, I decided to branch out and try taking more electives. I was so happy to see a web development course being offered in the spring semester of 2020.
Desperation & deliberation
Now, if you know me, I despise making decisions and I take judgments very seriously. I knew that the degree I was currently pursuing was not the right fit. I wanted to pursue a bachelor's degree in web development.
After much deliberation and research, I eventually stumbled on an online degree from Arkansas State University. In a hasty decision, I decided to talk to a recruiter about their online degree programs. After a quick 15-minute phone call, I was hooked. They got me.
The Aftermath
In the fall semester of 2020, I started my journey at Arkansas State University with a major in Digital Innovations and an emphasis on graphical communications.
This is where I was introduced to the world of UI/UX design, graphic design, and programming. I fell in love with the program and genuinely enjoyed everything that I learned. I feel as though I now thoroughly understand the meaning behind, “find something you like to do so it never feels like work.”
"No mistakes, just happy accidents." - Bob Ross
Throughout my college career, the university changed my major a few times but I finally settled on Digital Technology and Design with a concentration in Web Design. I took a variety of classes including print publication, mobile application development (Swift, Kotlin), and marketing courses.
Outside of work & school, I have a variety of hobbies ranging from fishing, baking, and painting. I hope to share more about myself as the new year progresses.

As always- happy designing!
